I am a biology teacher. I think this book's idea of presenting students with a question they have to answer with research and evidence is the future of science education, however, it did fall short in some aspects. Some of the virtual labs seem too complicated to figure out. I think i would need to sign up my students one whole lab period just to have them feel comfortable with it. I think they could be more student friendly. Also some labs require lab equipment I do not have. I would have liked to see samples of student work. Out of 27 labs I think I liked 10. Overall good ideas, but Wasnt as impressed. I think this book had the potential to be great.
This is The book for high school Argument driven biology labs. It provides everything but the lab materials and direct experience needed for implementing great labs in class. Okay, you'll need to format some of the material in your local school/districts required lesson plan format to satisfy those needs, but everything else is ready for use. Highly recommended, especially for jump starting use of argument-driven inquiry in classes.
