If you are interested in getting an NPC (non-player character) to behave like a real person (or beast or robot) would behave, this book is for you. And the wonderful thing about it is that it is super easy to follow without getting lost or bored or confused. Patrick (the author) has a knack for creating bite-sized sections that take just a few minutes to get through and, once each section is done, you can run the game and see how what you just did changes the way the characters behave.You literally go from the book to Unity to the script editor (Visual Studio Community Edition for me) and back to the book constantly... NEVER just reading for 30 minutes and getting drowsy. And when you get done with a section, you don't feel like you just followed the instructions without knowing what you just did... Patrick moves at a perfect pace... Not too much detail, but not too high level. Just enough information to keep you thinking and engaged without bogging you down in theory or over-explaining things just to fill pages.I just can't say enough about the excellent style of this author. Once you start reading, you just want to keep going. It's almost like binge-watching a series on Netflix... You just want to stay up all night and keep going... and once you get to the end you feel like you have lost a friend. Luckily, Patrick has written other books for me to dive into.I figure an average reader with a little familiarity in Unity and C# (like if you already read one of his other books) should be able to get through this in 8-12 hours and come away with a solid understanding of the various ways to make your characters seem to have a mind of their own.
